The Frankston Serial Killer, by Vikki Petraitis

The riveting and true account of seven horrifying weeks in 1993 when the Australian bayside town of Frankston was terrorised by a series of crimes unlike anything they'd experienced before. Vikki Petraitis details the extensive police investigation into three brutal homicides that led to the search for a serial killer; and the effect that his killing spree had on the families involved and the community as a whole. Few cases in Victoria's history have incited the fear and panic of that winter when a vicious killer was stalking Melbourne's bayside suburbs. When Paul Denyer was caught, detectives listened for hours while he described the killings in chilling detail and without a shred of remorse. He had coldly ended the lives of three young women, simply because he could.

DON'T give away the story at the beginning of the book !
By Julie
I've had this on my Kindle forever , so have slowly been trying to read my older books I've accumulated on there .
I read lots of true crime, but usually don't find the serial killer type books as interesting , unless it's about a person who knows their victims well ,THEN kills them at some point . Those are more interesting to me . I like trying to figure out what would make someone kill another person that they know , what drove them to do it ,etc.
The Serial Killers, are in a breed themselves. Most of them are mentally off kilter to start with or they wouldn't just randomly kill a stranger .
So, I go into this one knowing it'll be just another one of those sorts of books . I liked the way the author begins to tell the story, as the writing is good and the story easy to get into .
Now for my complaint :
I REALLY hate it when true crime books tell you at the very beginning what the crime was and who the killer was . It really ruins the book to give away the pertinent information on page 1 ( or sometimes the covers ) .
The author did find it important to tell more about the victims and their families , which was good because so many times the victims get lost in the shuffle when reading about a serial killer .
This would have gotten 4 stars if the story wouldn't have been given away in the beginning, though .

Detailed account of the hunt for an Australian serial killer
By Alina
This is a very straightforwardly written journalistic account of the murders committed by Paul Denyer, the police efforts to capture him and the impact of the murders of 3 women, Elizabeth Stevens, Debbie Fream and Natalie Russell on their families and community. The author obviously had close co-operation with the police and the families of the victims and presents a very detailed and meticulously researched account of the police investigation and trial of Denyer from the points of view of all involved. Paul Denyer has requested gender reassignment surgery since conviction and, while the book mentions this turn of events, I would have liked to have read a bit more updated information about Denyer's history in prison. The book reads very much like a police procedural, the author does not engage in idle speculation or make any statements that cannot be backed up with evidence and she does an extremely good job of bringing home the reality of what was lost to so many people as a result of these murders. These murders were especially blood-thirsty and chilling as anyone who lived in Melbourne at the time remembers. This book is definitely at the quality end of the true-crime genre and is obviously written by a writer who was committed to doing justice to the very tragic events recounted.

The Baby Face Killer
By MoodyBlue
This book is about serial killer Paul Denyer who from an early age, exhibits some strange behavior. He kills a cat, injures a classmate, abuses another boy and peeps into the window of his brother's girlfriend however, his family didn't seem to think he was strange at all. So you can imagine their shock when Paul grows up and becomes a serial killer! Now I don't blame his family for his actions, but come on! At what point do you say to yourself, or out loud: THIS KID IS CRAZY! and get him some help? The chubby and baby faced 21 year old Paul Denyer, roams about Frankston looking for victims and torments would be victims who are not at home when he comes calling, even killing a mother cat and her two kittens for the intended victim to find. By the time Denyer is caught, three young women will have lost their lives. The story is interesting and the author does a good job telling the story of Paul Denyer and not forgetting his victims.
