About the Author
Eric Segalstad is a freelance journalist and musician based out of Vermont. He holds an MA in Journalism from the University of Montana and his words and photography have appeared in music and outdoor magazines such as Relix, Jambase, Ski, and Skiing. Josh Hunter resides in Buford, Georgia, and works as an illustrator, graphic designer, and painter. He holds a BFA from the Art Institute of Chicago and his work has been featured by Bill Graham Presents, Widespread Panic, and the Fox Theatre in Boulder, Colorado.

A Multi-sensory Reading Experience

Have you ever got kinda sad while reading a great book, knowing that the ride will ultimately end in the pages to come? For me, The 27s is one of those books, and thankfully the ride does not have to end when the book does. The 27s is dripping with rich musical knowledge, and Segalstad directs readers to explore outside its pages by quoting lyrics, dropping influential song names, and embedding the text with web links. The art is also a whole other element, and now I feel I must go back and simply appreciate each page's colorful canvas.
Segalstad & Hunter have created a new unique reading experience that appeals to those of us who not only want to read about music history, but be a part of it through a stunning multisensory experience.

Pure Greatness

What I like most about the book is the individual narratives of each musician. An interesting point is the wide an array of characters and how their lives did not mirror one another, but often vary significantly. The drawings are awesome page after page. If you are a fan of great writing, interesting stories, or unique portraits, you should pick this up.

Great read for anyone intested in rock & roll

This is an enchanting book (graphic non-fiction style) that weaves through the true stories of a number of musicians who coincidentally died at age 27. It is loaded with interesting and often fairly intense information about these people and I found it hard put down. The book is interspersed with striking artwork and images of the musicians that seemingly flows with the stories, and is beautiful to look at. A nice touch is a running timeline with related and unrelated events happening in the world, and also sidebar notes that add some insight. I really enjoyed it and will probably re-read it soon.
